Jim Woodruff Dam "50th Anniversary"
Jim Woodruff Dam Celebrating 50 Years |
On March 16, 2007 a historic celebration took place just below the dam in the exact location the original dedication of the structure was held March 22, 1957. The event hosted by the US Army Corps of engineers, was planned in partnership with the City of Chattahoochee, Town of Sneads and the local Chambers of Commerce from Gadsden and Jackson counties in Florida and Bainbridge-Decatur County and Seminole County in Georgia.
Attending the ceremony were Color Guard from Ft. Rucker Army Aviation Center and local area bands from West Gadsden High School, Sneads High School and Seminole County Middle-High School. Welcoming remarks were delivered by Col. Peter F. Taylor, Jr., District Commander, Corp of Engineers followed by acknowledgment of guest by William "Bill" Smallwood, ACF Rivers Project, Operations Project Manager. William Fuller, Chief, Operation Division, Corps of Engineers, Mobile District, Introduced the speakers which included Chattahoochee's Mayor Gene Morgan and Jon Worthington from Southeastern Power Administration. Tom Moorer, representative of the Tri-Rivers Waterway Association gave the anniversary address. Highlights was the placement of several items into a time capsule which will be opened at the 75th anniversary celebration set for March 16, 2023. Placing those items in the time capsule were Frank Pringle, Robert Alcorn and John Alcorn. The 50th anniversary celebration also involved the official name change for the project. The Jim Woodruff Project/Lake Seminole officially has become Woodruff/Seminole Site.
